Academic Support

  • Spend $60K annually on teacher mini grants.
  • Annual funding to make possible several class field trips each year.
  • Annual funding of Future Day, a college & career readiness event sending all 9th graders to experience a day at a business and all 10th graders to a college campus.
  • Funds to establish a student-run literary magazine called Dam Magazine.
  • Grants to bring in Author and Artists in Residence for the last three years.
  • Support literacy for English Language Learners by funding the purchase of Spanish language books for Language Arts classrooms and BHS Library.

Athletics

  • Grants provided to club sport teams such as the Multicultural Soccer teams.
  • Funding for equipment upgrades in the weight room and wrestling gym.
  • Financial support for a year-round, staff supervised weight room program which serves more than 125 students each week.
  • Purchased and installed state of the art drop down projection screens, projectors and audio equipment for the main gym
  • Purchased and installed new championship banners

Digital Media and Marketing Pathway

Facilities Improvements

  • A remodeled College and Career Center now inspires BHS students to explore and discover higher education opportunities, trades and other career paths.
  • The refreshed Student Center provides a welcoming, comfortable place to collaborate and engage.
  • Transformed into a 21st century education space, the Library has been outfitted with new technology, furniture, flexible meeting and study areas, and much more.
  • The Community Room is now a conference room where BHS can proudly host internal meetings and meetings with community partners. It includes enhanced digital presentation equipment.
  • Purchased upgraded projectors for classrooms.
  • The newly completed concessions building called “The Bite” provides an excellent facility (with restrooms!) to better serve our fans during athletic activities. The adjacent Plaza is a place to eat and mingle during events. Commemorative, engraved bricks can be purchased to help support BHS for many years to come.

Health Careers Pathway

  • Added Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Pharmacy Tech, and Emergency Medical Response to the health careers program
  • Funds to pay fees for BHS students to take the CNA test.
  • Funds to purchase specialized supplies for English Language Learners.

Math & Science

  • Purchased dozens of new graphing calculators
  • Provided financial support for new Engineering Pathway
  • Funds to bring Biology and Chemistry technology up to industry standards
  • Supported the addition and expansion of the Engineering Program
  • Replaced computers in the drafting lab

Performing & Visual Arts

  • Provide financial support for travel and competition.
  • Purchased new, state of the art, sound equipment.
  • Purchased digital cameras to re-start photography classes.

Staff & Instructional Support

  • Funding for professional development for teachers
  • Culturally relevant teaching professional development
  • Sent 20 teachers to a summertime technology camp
  • Funds for staff luncheons, spiritwear, supplies for social emotional activities
  • Remodeled the Staff Room

Student Support

  • Award 25K annually in senior scholarships
  • Funds provided to counselors for student needs, especially for homeless students
  • Purchased Houston Kraft character development curriculum for use by the student Leadership class
  • Purchased a large scale printer for Leadership class
  • Award mini grants to create or enhance student clubs such as Acts of Random Kindness and the Rhythm B’s
  • Funds to send Japanese Club to the Japan Bowl
